Orion back shell

Orion spacecraft’s panel 1 of the back shell that protected the crew module from reentry heat on Exploration Flight Test 1 is on display at Denver Museum of Nature and Science.


Bacharach, Germany

In the early 11th century, Bacharach had its first documentary mention.

In 1794, French Revolutionary troops occupied the Rhine’s left bank. In 1802, Bacharach became temporarily French.

The original name Baccaracus points to Celtic beginning.



The Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle’s Nest) was presented to Adolf Hitler on his 50th birthday as a retreat and place to entertain friends and visiting dignitaries.


Rhine Falls – Rheinfallfelsen

The largest plain waterfall in Europe near Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

Formed last iceage aprx 14,000-17,000 yrs ago w/ erosion-resistant rocks narrowing the riverbed.

The large rock is a remnant of original limestone cliff flanking the former channel.


Rubble Hill – Birkenkopf

“Memorial to the victims and a warning to the living.”

Nearly 15 million cubic meters of rubble from WWII Allied bombing of Stuttgart Germany, an industrial center of the German war machine.



The Lorelei is a large rock on the Rhine river in Germany.

The rock and the murmur it creates have inspired various tales. The wind echoes with a remarkable singing sound that legend insists is the lullaby of a flaxen-haired maiden. Another old legend envisioned dwarfs living in caves in the rock.
